The iconic image of the Matterhorn piercing the sky above Zermatt is familiar to everyone, and this region of the Alps offers fabulous hiking and skiing. The Alps’ largest glacier is nearby. The Italian side also provides great skiing, hiking and views – where the Matterhorn is known as Monte Cervino and looks quite different from the standard postcard image.
