See more Mountains. See best of Switzerland

Lauterbrunnen is the quintessential U-shaped alpine valley enclosed by towering peaks. In summer, every trail rewards the hiker with glorious views, and in winter the Inferno (featured in a James Bond movie) is a fantastic long ski run from the summit of the Schilthorn. Nearby Grindelwald offers equally fantastic hiking, skiing and views of the Bernese High Alps. Dominating the picture-perfect landscape are the glacier-clad Jungfrau and the Eiger north wall – the “wall of death.” The incredible Jungfraujoch railway tunnels through the heart of the Eiger to the highest railway station in Europe at the head of the Aletsch glacier, Europe's largest, with staggering views.
