See more Mosques. See best of Medina in Saudi Arabia.

History tells us that Muhammad laid the first stones of this mosque after leaving Mecca for Medina. Unfortunately the original structure was replaced in the 20th Century. The new version has a raised prayer hall and shops, baths and offices so it is more modern. The courtyard is the most beautiful place. It has tiles of red, white and black marble and white towers in its four corners and a carved lattice shade to protect from the sun. From the outside the building is all white and lovely.
