Commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan, also responsible for the Taj Mahal, this is the main mosque in Old Delhi, with capacity for a congregation of 25,000. As well as its detailed mosaic exterior, three graceful Taj Mahal-esque onion domes (the whole structure has a similar layout to its more famous sibling), and tall minarets, the Jama Masjid houses several important relics including a copy of the Qur’an inscribed on deer skin. Its full name is Masjid-i-Jahan Numa meaning ‘The Mosque Commanding a View of the World’.
