Talat Kao is the old market in Bangkok and has been the central marketplace in Chinatown for over a century. It’s the first point of call for Chinese chefs from all over Bangkok as it sells the elusive Chinese specialities that you can’t get anywhere else. The market’s shark’s fins, dried abalone (shellfish), fried puffed up fish stomachs and steamed bird’s nests have earned it a reputation for catering to the more extreme end of Chinese cuisine, but if you prefer your meals without leaves and bits of twigs you can also get some safe steamed dumplings and a freshly squeezed mandarin juice.
