The Cours Saleya is Nice's favourite street for those who want to meet for a chat or just enjoy a wander to nowhere specific; gift shops, pavement cafes and restaurants sit side by side all along both sides of this pedestrianised thoroughfare, but it's the market that merits the most attention. From Tuesday to Sunday the street is filled with the heady aroma of cut flowers and a vast array of fresh fruit and vegetables is available, and on Mondays there's an antiques market. It's best to arrive early for the freshest produce or the best deals. During the Summer, the market stays open later in the evening and the stalls are used to sell art and crafts.
