The grand covered bazaar Balik Pazari houses underneath its canopies the finest fish that turkey has to offer, along with exotic spices, fruits, vegetables and even jewelery. The vendors sell fish from around the country; octopus from Bodrum, calamari from Antalya and prawns from Canakkale. There is also an enormous range of meze to sample and buy, especially seafood meze prepared with products from the market. If you don’t want buy the meze for later, or try it on your feet, you can duck down the passages leading to Nevizade Sokağı (Nevizade Street) where the restaurants line their tables in the street you can sit at a table and relax whilst sampling different types of meze. For those who aren’t fans of fish, down the Çiçek Pasajı (Flower Passageway) are not flowers, but a combination of small restaurants which specialize in the alcohols of the region and only serve food that goes especially well with them.
