See more Lakes. See best of Taiwan

Taiwan’s biggest lake is a place of great natural beauty and historic significance. The Thao people have lived around the lake for generations and are the only inhabitants who have access to Lalu, the island in the middle of the tranquil waters. Every year a Mid-Autumn Festival is held nearby, with the Swimming Carnival as one of the major highlights. Tourists go to Sun Moon Lake to experience reflection, peace, and beauty without pretension.
