As well as the famous James Bond island, jutting like a dagger out of the bay, and Koh Pannyi Island, with its village built entirely on stilts, Phang Nga Bay has many uninhabited islands to explore. Most of these have spectacular caverns with pale stalactite formations and a good variety of exotic flora and fauna in mangrove forests, land forests and tropical forests. Most of these island you need a kayak to get out to and there are no tourist facilities for visitors. The bay is surrounded by tall limestone cliffs which have been colourfully streaked by mineral deposits and make sailing and paddling is very safe. Around lunch time each day the tour buses come in, flooding Koh Pannyi and James Bond Island with thousands of tourists, however at other times the community is more like other Thai fishing villages. There are a few places to stay in the region but it’s short trip from Phuket and most of the tours leave from there.
