See more Best Hotels. See best of Mozambique

Located on the Western side of Bazaruto Island, Indigo bay is the largest of the hotels on Bazaruto with a total of 48 room and 2 suites. Set aside a beautiful squeaky white beach, this is a hotel that offers great value for money and whose focus is more about the activities on offer than the sheer beauty and calm.

As with all the lodges in the area, their beaches are stunning and the reefs that surround this archipelago brim with a vast array of fish. The key for anyone visiting the area is to decide on what they want from their stay; Indigo satisfies the more energetic of us; people who want to do something active every day be it snorkeling, diving , water skiing, knee boarding or even dune boarding will certainly feel at home here! Those who want to stay in the lodge however will find Karl, the manager a very welcoming host.

The accommodation here is of a high standard but the atmosphere is more of a hotel than a small, luxurious island retreat. The rooms are split into 24 beach chalets and 24 bay view rooms (beach chalets certainly being the ones to stay in). There are also 2 suites, the Matemo and the Presidential Suite. In our view, if you are going to splash out, stay in the Presidential Suite!

All the other rooms have private balconies, are air conditioned and have romantic mosquito nets screening the beds. All have en suite showers and/or baths, mini-bars, personal safes, hairdryers, coffee/tea making facilities, satellite TV, telephone access and are luxuriously furnished. There are conference facilities here along with a couple of different restaurants bars and a children’s club; this may well sound like the list of facilities in a London hotel and in fact, Indigo bay accommodates for this clientele- it is a very good choice for families.
