Kipling set ’The Jungle Book’, his tales of a boy raised by wolves in the Jungle of Kanha National Park, so most people will arrive here with a felling of already knowing the place and it’s creatures. The park is part of the Kanha Tiger Reserve (formed in 1974), but it’s area was actually declared national park in 1955. Since then a series of stringent conservation programmes for the protection of the park’s flora and fauna has given Kanha its deserved reputation for being one of the finest and best administered national parks in Asia and an excellent place to reside for all creatures.

There are plenty of exotic animals here, amongst them (and the most popular to visitors) are tigers, jackals, wild pigs, langurs, sloth bears, hyenas, antelope and at least four kinds of deer. Kanha is also a haven for birds. Amongst the mixed bamboo forests birdwatchers can see up to 200 species.

As well as the fauna the parks landscape is exceptionally beautiful. Bamni Dadar (or Sunset Point), a wide expanse of grassland makes a spectacular backdrop to exotic animals grazing at dusk.
