Wakehurst Place
See more Gardens. See best of Crawley in United Kingdom.

The wilder, wider-ranging sister of Kew Gardens, Wakehurst Place is a magical place for wildlife enthusiasts with over five hundred acres of land to its name in total.
Aside from the Elizabethan mansion, the celebrated Millennium Seed Bank Project, rare plant collections, pretty water gardens and immaculate beds of domesticated flora, there are vast swathes of woodland and wetland dedicated entirely to the conservation of local plants and wildlife.
Take a wander through ankle-deep carpets of spring bluebells in Horsebridge Wood, enjoy a lively guided tour of the Loder Valley nature reserve, book well in advance for an educational badger-watching evening with one of Wakehurst's wonderful conservation staff, or simply pick a perfect sun-dappled woodland glade for a picnic.
