The Graduate (Dir: Mike Nichols, 1968). United Methodist Church, 3205 D Street, La Verne, California, USA. While the United Methodist Church is a fairly attractive building it’s not that much too look at unless you’re a fan of 60’s classic ‘The Graduate’. If you are you’ll recognise it’s square front straight away as the church where Ben bangs on the window trying to stop Elaine’s wedding. The feeling of uncomfortable desperation you get from this scene comes flooding back and it’s worth (if you like reliving your favourite cinematic moments.) banging on the window a bit yourself… In the film the church is supposed to be in Santa Barbara and there is some incorrect literature saying the scenes were actually filmed in a different church actually in Santa Barbara - but that’s wrong, this is the right spot! While you’re in the area why not spend some more time playing Dustin Hoffman by having a mope around at the fountain outside the Douheny Memorial Library at the University of Southern California (which is standing in for Berkley.).
