The Vienna Life Ball

If eclectic, other-worldly glitz tempts you more that traditional glamour, then the Life Ball should be the high point of your Viennese social season. The Aids Life charity organized the first one in 1992 at the City Hall as a fund raiser for their cause, and it has since evolved into the largest such event in Europe, bringing in over a million Euros in donations annually. World famous singers, models, designers and others pledge their support and work with the event organizers to put on a fabulous themed fashion show for public viewing, and the theme is continued through to the fancy dress ball which follows. It’s colourful, voluptuous, upbeat and over-the-top; past themes have included ‘Once upon a Time there was a Princess called Hope’ and ‘A choir of Love against an Army of Ignorance’. It’s a world-class party with a conscience to match.
