‘Burning Man festival, Nevada’By Charlie Norton for The Telegraph First published August 22, 2008
Burning Man (August 25 - September 1, 2008) is an eight-day annual event that takes place on an ancient lakebed, known as the “playa”, in Black Rock City, a temporary desert metropolis in Nevada, 90 miles northeast of Reno.
48,000 people participated last year and for seven days it was the third largest city in Nevada, making Glastonbury look like a soggy garden party.
The event, which takes its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy, is described by the organizers as "an annual experiment in temporary community dedicated to radical self-expression and radical self-reliance". It is a showcase for music, art and performance and no money changes hands within the playa. See the full article in The Telegraph, 22 August 2008 Review by press. Have you been here?
