In 1967, a three-day festival of jazz acts rocked the banks of Lake Geneva at the first Montreux Festival. Successive years attracted increasing numbers of global jazz greats, and decades on, a new and bigger format incorporated progressive rock, blues, soul, world and alternative sounds in more venues, with more free concerts and greater public accessibility. Today, the ‘Swiss Riviera’ springs to life for two weeks in mid-July each year with the music of Switzerland’s most popular festival.
