Designed as a chance for music to break free of the boundaries of concert halls and reach the non-paying masses, this festival enjoys a laid-back atmosphere of common enjoyment and artistic freedom. Ancient to modern music is performed solo, by bands and by whole choirs on the streets and in squares during the first weekend in June, and a craft and food market takes place in the centre of the old town, all in homage to Leipzig's rich musical heritage.
