Sardinia Coast to Coast    Sardinia Coast to Coast

A lovely cycling holiday alternating between dirt tracks and quiet asphalt roads, steep climbs and thrilling descents. This is a challenging holiday deep into the heart of Sardinia, requiring a reasonable level of fitness rather than technical ability.

9 days, from £745 (Group tour). Saddle Skedaddle »

Take the festival track less beaten by tourists in Sedilo, home of L’Ardia di San Costantino, a wild, dusty horse race through the ancient streets in celebration of Constantine’s Christian victory in 312. The festival lasts from 5th to 7th July and the race is re-enacted each evening by a group of riders, three representing Constantine and his two standard-bearers, who are blessed by a local priest, and speeches are made in their honour, in the name of Christianity. The suspense is broken when the horses thunder through the Sanctuario Di San Costantino with Constantine at their head, slowing for seven ceremonial passes round the sanctuary to reaffirm their beliefs, before dismounting at the dry fountain and heading back into town for an enormous feast.
