See more Festivals. See best of Chichicastenango in Guatemala.
Held over seven days in the lead up to Christmas, the Fiesta de Santo Tomas is a unique blend of Mayan and Christian traditions, held to announce winter and the mythical Christmas messenger, Olentzero. It also coincides with Saint Tomas’s Day on the 21st of December. There is dancing, music and processions and it is one of South America’s largest annual events, with people travelling from all over Guatemala to this tiny town to join in the festivities.
