Family expedition into the Puerto Rican Rainforest

For families of budding scientists, a foray into the rainforest with a team of conservation scientists collecting information about the habitat and its residents is just the job. However, even if you’re not that keen on science, Earthwatch expeditions will give you the chance to uncover new rainforest species, get stuck into the rainforest environment; hiking through tropical rainforest, following fast flowing rivers and above all getting to know all the residents both animal and plant. As part of a team, you and your family will assist in finding and counting lizards and frogs, helping to tag and identify vine species and also setting up experimental plots for planting different tree and shrub species. It’s not all hard work though, there’s plenty of fun to be had splashing around in the river and you can go on hikes, take part in craft making activities or just lounge around in the project library and make your brain do some work instead of just your body. You don’t have to worry about sneaking out at night to have a peek at what the jungle does while you’re asleep; as some species only come out at night, you will get to go searching for coqui frogs on a night expedition and other evening activities come in the form of salsa dancing classes and enjoying local culture and cuisine. It may sound like a bit of hard work, but it’s worth it to get a chance to spend time in an area few people will ever even see. Earthwatch Puerto Rican Rainforest Adventures
