Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Sanctuary

See more Endangered. See best of Belize

The world’s only jaguar sanctuary, around 150 square miles of rich tropical rainforest are protected and monitored by Cockscomb Basin. The forest of mahogany and cedar also hides a Mayan archaeological site and is bordered by Belize’s highest mountain, Victoria Peak. You’ll need these other diversions, unfortunately though you’re likely to see where a jaguar has recently been you’re unlikely to see a jaguar (well, they are known for being stealthy, camouflaged predators.). You’re much more likely to see a puma or an ocelot.
