This bay and the corals underneath it are part of the Greater St. Lucia Wetlands Park, so the run off area as well as the reef itself is protected. This means the hard and soft corals are healthier than in a lot of other South African dive sites (not that I have visited that many, mind.). Tropical fish, like the ones you see in fish tanks, as well as loggerhead, green, hawksbill and leatherback turtles, moray eels and big old potato bass, whale sharks and dolphins pass through these clean waters. This is pretty relaxed diving, not spectacular like some of the reefs closer to the equator, but probably the best diving in South Africa. The main dives are all reef dives from boats, with choppy surf take offs and the further out you go the more the reefs start to take an interesting shape with walls and swim-throughs, closer in it’s mostly just coral gardens and plateaus.
