This is about the smallest island you can imagine, you can walk around it in about 15 minutes, no exaggeration. It’s pretty much a ‘tropical paradise’. There are a couple of dives off it but the best one has to be Manta Point. It’s got to be one of the best places in the worlds to see manta rays as they fly around you, which is what it looks like they’re doing when they move through the water, if you haven’t seen it, it is something that will mesmerise you. They come in in flocks of four or five, some of them up to three metres across – those big guys can block out the sun. There’s a ledge to rest by and the mantas pretty much come to you there, they’re used to people and they’ll swoop down, often close enough for you to touch, then swoop back up towards the surface. They like to play in the bubbles of the divers, how cool is that. Really an amazing experience that I don’t have to words to do justice to. The rest of the diving off Baros is fine, nothing too spectacular but a visit here between June and November – peak manta season – will be one of the most memorable of your life.
