Lands End to John O'Groats    Lands End to John O'Groats

A cycling holiday from toe to tip of the entire length of Britain, and the ultimate UK cycling holiday challenge - that’s the only way to describe cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

21 days, from £2300 (Group tour). Saddle Skedaddle »

This needs to be included as one of the most popular cycling trips in the UK: the website says they have between 12,000 and 15,000 cyclists on it each year. So it’s busy and very organised and well maintained which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your take on it. The well marked route starts at Whitehaven on Cumbria’s west coast to the north east coast at Sunderland on the North Sea, passing through some of the best scenery you’ll find in the UK including the Lake District, Penrith and the Eden Valley. Tradition, albeit tradition only begun in 1994 when the pathways linking the roads and back roads was completed, says you should start with your wheel in the Irish Sea and not finish until your front wheel is dipped into the North Sea. Over the 230k journey there are a couple of off road sections and a couple of steep inclines but this is definitely a “fun for the whole family” kind of experience.
