A modernist architectural forefather, the Villa Savoye is considered a masterpiece of Le Corbusier's purist design. Located in a suburb near Paris, the house is dominantly angular and unnatural like a machine. The Villa Savoye was the finalisation of an idea that took Corbusier through many design commissions, and the basis for much of Le Corbusier's later architecture. Although it looks severe in photographs, it is a complex and visually stimulating structure, the building appearing different from each angle. The property fell inton a state of disrepair after WWII, although the house has now been restored and its doors are open to the public.
