Despite being limited by planning codes and size restrictions, Loos was still able to excel, showing the world, as opposed to Vienna, as he had previously only been able to achieve, that he was a master of radical rationalist modern architecture. The regulations only permitted a street front with one story and a window built in a sloping roof. The large window at the front brings light in on the first level. The brilliance of the design becomes evident when comparing the garden facade's three storeys to the front facade's semi-circular metal-sheathed roof. The result is a tasteful and delightful suburban home, suggesting a conservative neat appearance backed up by a depth invisible to the general public. Why would you not want to live here?
