I. G. Farben Offices

See more Contemporary Architecture. See best of Frankfurt in Germany.

Also known as the Poelzig Complex, this structure radiates raw power and solidity. When examining the plan of the entire property, it becomes evident that the shape of the six-winged building appears as a bent bow or crossbow, its tremendous potential ready for release, which explains its fierce demeanour. IG Farben director Baron von Schnitzler requested "a symbol, in iron and stone, of German commercial and scientific manpower", which they undoubtedly received. This shift from the conventional hollow rectangular or square office block meant better ventilation and sunlight.
