Chrysler Building

Indubitably one of the world’s most dramatic, beautiful and famous skyscrapers, it is an Art Deco masterwork from architect William van Alen, on commission from Mr. Chrysler. Using stainless steel to plate the spire, it seems to shine with pride and confidence; a lighthouse of the skies. Sculptures inside and out mimic Chrysler car designs, and there are most honourable ceiling murals by Edward Trumbull. The reception is lined in marbles, onyx and amber, and chrome steel. It was involved in a race to be the tallest building in the world, cleverly eclipsing the Bank of Manhattan Building by smuggling the 27-ton spire in sections up the fire shaft, making it the tallest in the world, albeit for only a few months.
