Staunton Harold's medieval church

See more Churches & Abbeys. See best of Midlands in United Kingdom.

Could this be the perfect setting? Only by visiting all 15,000 will you know the answer to that, but in the meantime this must be a strong contender. A fine 18th century house with landscaped gardens and lake, and in the corner a medieval church – but its not medieval it’s a 17th century copy of a medieval church, very rare indeed. If you struggle with the concept of heaven the painted ceiling will give you some clues as to what it might look like. There are fine 18th century ironwork screens to the chancel and much 17th century richly carved woodwork. 3 miles south of Melbourne (Derbyshire). Now cared for by the National Trust.
