Bright, romantic and almost palace-like, the Almudena stands in the centre of Madrid. It was initially designed in the mid-19th Century in a neo-Gothic style, but was adapted later to incorporate some neo-Classical features to link it with the nearby Royal Palace. Finally completed only in 1993, it was used for a royal wedding in 2004 and has a suitably light, cream and white interior displaying a uniquely haphazard, refreshing range of styles, with pop art stained glass windows.
