This cave is well set up for the not very active visitor, once you needed to walk for 45 mins from the nearest town then use carbide lamps to see the best the caves have to offer, but now everything is lit up with tastefully hidden electric lighting showing up the highlights (which are the long very thin, 4mm in diameter, stalactites which look something like solid rain). To make it even easier the first few caves near the mouth are the most impressive, the first, La salle Principale is the biggest chamber (about 18m high), filled with a green pool (don’t worry there are walkways) while the Cathedral, the grandest cave is set up with a big sound and lights show, which controls your experience. The really interesting thing about visiting these caves are the glowing pink underwater salamanders who have been brought here to be studied - now I’ve got you interested haven’t I? They’re about 30 - 35 cms long with no eyes and they live for about 80 years, definitely worth the 7 or 8 euros it costs to get in. Bring your camera.
