The Royal Palace of Madrid remains the official residence of the King of Spain though not, strictly speaking, the royals' actual home. Used for ceremonies, the palace traces its lineage to the ninth century, though in its current guise, dates back to 1734, built by King Philip V. Visitors can see 50 of the 2,800 rooms.
