The Royal Palace of Caserta is known as the "Versailles of Italy" and was built on the orders of the Bourbon King Charles to outdo Versailles. The sheer lavishness of this palace is beyond belief, with one gorgeously ornate chamber after another - culminating in the Golden Throne Room. The adjoining Royal Garden is over 3 kilometers long. The palace contains some 1200 rooms and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Interestingly, it was used as a film location in several Star Wars movies.
