See more Castles & Palaces. See best of East Coast in Ireland.

This castle is typical of those built by families of English origin in the eastern parts of Ireland and there are many similar buildings throughout County Wexford, and also in Counties Dublin, Kildare, Louth and Meath. An inhabited house lies within the west end of the small bawn, which is complete apart from a short gap on the south side. It has one circular corner bartizan. In the SE corner is the tower house, which is much smaller than those in the gaelic-speaking areas generally are. It has two storeys under a vault and three more levels above now open to the sky. The wall-walks with corner turrets and double-stepped battlements are well-preserved.
