Trigrad Gorge

A path has been cut into the edge of this sheer, narrow gorge, making for a mysterious trail – the path before and behind you winds and you can’t see far in either direction. Though the gorge is about seven kilometres long the interesting bit, which is the narrow section where the opening between the gorge walls is between 300 and 50 metres and the height of them 300 to 350 metres. The road in and out of Trigrad goes between these walls and even from a car you can appreciate the interesting karst formations which have formed in this old river bed before the river dives underground via a dramatic series of 18 waterfalls. Spectacular caves have formed in the gorge so the area is popular with climbers, cavers and people who like impressive bits of nature alike. Some people think this is Bulgaria’s most beautiful natural formation.
