Hollental

Translated as "Valley to Hell", this is a nine km long valley set amongst the heavy forests and rising mountains of Germany's Black Forest. At some points, narrow gorges as high as 600 metres have been gouged into the mountains and in one section there is a steep inclined tunnel.

There is a well known hunter's trail along parts of the valley, made more exciting by several high viaducts you can cross in dramatic 'Indiana Jones' style. Hiking is one of the most popular pastimes in this region and there are many trails going up into the mountains, which pass through Hollental.

This is also an area worth visiting for its traditional culture, with interesting architecture, good food and beer and lots of it.
