It should be called Copper Canyons because there are six, and all together it would take more water to fill them than it would the Grand Canyon, this system of canyons is one of Mexico’s most stunning natural scenes. Green forests fall away to reveal sheer rocky cliffs before vanishing into hazy clefts in the distance. The Tarahumara Indians, famed for their long distance running prowess were the original inhabitants and still hold many of the secrets of the place, and along with the waterfalls, strange rock formations and panic inducing-ly spectacular views, are the main reasons people come here. Most people admire the canyons from the inside of a train carriage on the Chihuahua al Pacifico which winds its way around the canyon system over a set of 36 dramatic bridges.
