Bryce Canyon isn't really a canyon, but a series of horseshoe shaped aphitheatres filled with mazes of spiked, coloured rock formations, called hoodoos, shaped by ancient contact with ice and gravel. Because the sedimentary layers are made from many types of rock, the hoodoos are a range of warm red and orange colours. They look something like hundreds of giant, flat topped, narrow stalagmites within a vast basin. As well as exploring the crevises between the hoodoo canyons, you can also climb and cycle around the Bryce Canyon National Park which has a range of other scenery to enjoy including forests and desert plateaus.
