The Ardèche Gorges are in the southern section of the Ardèche River. They are giant granite ravines that are often described as being the Grand Canyon of France. A road trip through the gorges, stopping for a picnic lunch or at one of the small rock hewn villages, is an experience not to be forgotten. The gorges attract thousands of visitors a year. Because of the many tourists, it's important to book well in advance if you want to stay in the Gorges themselves.
