Low Wray Campsite

See more Camps & Campsites. See best of Lake District in United Kingdom.

The Lake District is my favourite place in Britain and it is arguably one of the most spectacular regions which can best be described as “breathtaking“. Low Wray is a fantastic base campsite to explore the region from. The two best things about Low Wray are its setting (right on the shores of the great Lake Windermere) and the fact that its completely peaceful. This is attributed to the fact that no parties over four are permitted (unless it is a family) and the campsite can only accommodate tents and campervans. Windermere is the largest of the districts lakes and the campsite itself is relatively secluded with the nearest towns being Ambleside and Hawkshead, both 3 miles away. The area hosts a wide range of activities from mountain biking to fishing as well as a large number of water sports. The area is great for exploring on foot with a large number of walking trails. There is also Grizedale Forest nearby, which is also worth a wander. This is definitely a region best explored in the Summer months. The campsite closes from October and reopens just before Easter.
