Birdlife of Tiri Tiri Mathanghi
See more Birdwatching. See best of North Island in New Zealand.

Tiri Tiri Mathanghi is simply a heavenly experience where one can site amdist the regenerating native bushland and enjoy only native birdsong. This island in Auckland Bay is home to many of New Zealands endangered native birds like Kokako, Stitchbird, Takahe and many of its less endangered birds too. You can sit on a bench along the boarded walks where drinking troughs are built into handrails and silently wait for the air to be filled with twtiering tomtits and whiteheads, fantails and saddlebacks and delight in an experience unparalleled since St Francis acted as a magnet to all living things. If you are a birder then Tiri is one of the ten places you should visit before you die!
