Worth a detour

See more Beaches. See best of Wales in United Kingdom.

A magnificent open bay on the west coast of Anglesey with sweeping views of the Snowdonia Mountains and Lleyn Peninsular. Once a famous Edwardian holiday retreat, Rhosneigr still attracts families to the wide sandy beaches, interspersed with rocky outcrops, where kids scramble for mussels, seahares and the odd squat lobster, whilst sea anglers cast for bass, pollock and mackerel with bait and equipment from the numerous local fishing stores. Prevailing westerly winds, and the sheer space, make this a mecca for wind and kite surfers, but you may want to keep one eye turned to the sky. Anglesey has the most UFO sightings in the country.
