Thirty three bronze age granite burial cairns on a remote hill make up the World Heritage listed Sammallahdenmäki Burial Site. Erected between 1,500 and 500 BC, the cemetery was then by the sea, which has since retreated leaving them in a remote spot more than 15kms from the sea. The details gleaned about practices of religion and the culture of the people who constructed the site from what has been unearthed has made Sammallahdenmäki is one of the most important Bronze Age sites in Scandinavia.
