Mount Olympus

This is where the Gods of ancient Greece dwelled and Zeus sat almighty on his throne, at the country’s highest point (2,919m). Olympus looks particularly high because it rises from almost sea level, which is also the reason for the mountain’s very varied endemic animal and plant life, there’s a huge variety of environments on its slopes from the pine forests near the base to the fort-like rocky outcrops near the summit.

Climbers wanting to scale Olympus begin their journey to visit the twelve Hellenistic Gods at a town called Litochoro. It’s an easy enough trip to dash there and back in a day, you don’t need to camp out in one of the hermits or monks caves that are hidden in the mountain’s crevices, but you can camp there if you like, or in the woods, and commune with the gods at will.
