How safe is it for me to be in Palawan?

I have been to the Philippines 7 times, 5 of those times in Mindanao. I will be going to Dipolog very soon, which will be the closest to Palawan (My dream vacation spot) I have ever been.

Im an American and Im concerned about my safety when staying at Palawan and snorkeling. Not my safety with animals but with the rebels. MILF, Abu Sayyaf and related. Does Palawan offer me any special security or protection from this threat?
