Review about Kitesurfing on Margarita Island

El Yaque

This is a really well known spot for both windsurfers and kiters, its got good pretty reliable winds and wide beaches to take off from. The main kite beach is pretty smooth water and choppy waves and at the upwind end of the beach and then theres another section at the other end of the beach past the windsurfing area. You can also kite any where on the beach after about 5pm but it’s a free for all then so be careful if you’re still learning (I’ve kicked over a windsurfer before and he wasn’t impressed, you can also come off worse than them cause they’ve got a sail). Even though it’s a wide beach the launch spot can be crowded in season, but it’s ok for beginners cause most of the instructors were helping people launch from the water and it’s pretty shallow for a way out (knees) so you can launch from the water without too much hassle. Its busy on the weekend and the rules are strict then, like no flying your kite on the beach, but remember its like that to stop injury, take a deep breath and launch from the water. There are some pretty impressive locals here as well, watch close and you’ll see how and where they ride the conditions. Warm water, warm air, with a good scene.
