Given Squaw Valley's reputation as the birthplace of American extreme skiing, you may be surprised at the amount on offer for beginners, with a selection of nursery slopes, easy pistes and even a beginners' lift pass. Whilst intermediates can enjoy the collection of crusing pistes, the resort is predominantly enjoyed by experts and beginners, with the steep terrain, chutes and excellent off-piste skiing of obvious appeal to advanced skiers. The mountain restaurants rely on the impressive scenery to be classed as even adequate, though there is a much wider range of restaurants on offer away from the mountain. The resort boasts an array of alternative winter sports, whilst there is a generally relaxed feel to the apr├ęs-ski, often consisting of sports-oriented bars.
