There can't be many places on earth where you can stand on crisp, white snow and look over arid plains. This is Heavenly!! From the top of Milky Way Bowl and Dipper Knob you can see for miles over Nevada while standing on the snow capped peaks of California. What makes this experience so perfect, apart from the spectacular views, are the absorbing black runs, wide open pistes for the less experienced, the express chair lifts and of course the brilliant sun.
In the evening, you climb back into your Taurus and drive the 10 or so miles back down to South Lake Tahoe for a dip in the hot tub and a spot of gambling. Heavenly is approximately 3-4 hours drive from San Francisco and is one of a cluster of ski resorts around Lake Tahoe that include Squaw Valley. Three days in San Francisco and 7 days in Lake Tahoe makes this the perfect fly drive holiday.
