Toledo is a spectacular and historic town within an easy drive of Madrid, famed for its steel weaponry and Moorish architecture. It is situated in a strong defensive position on a rock above the River Tagus, with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Ntable monuments of Toledo include the Alcazar, the Cathedral and the ancient marketplace, the Zocodover. Tour groups can swamp the place in summer, so make sure you go with enough time to linger after they have all departed in mid-afternoon - or better still, stay the night.

Somehow no matter what turn you make or what direction you are going you find yourself walking up. This is quickly forgotten however once you take in the charming atmosphere and terrific scenery. With colorful market flags and smells, you feel completely immersed in the culture. If you get lost, use the McDonalds as a point of reference. They are rare enough that all people will know how to get you to this "landmark."
