Sitting in a back pew of the Saint Basil’s Cathedral looking up towards the huge dome, a bit of cold wind seeps through a stain glass window and it is time for a cup of coffee. A café just down the street serves fresh piping hot coffee and the constantly changing and growing accustomed to a global culture and anticipating a more modern future. Moscow is the centre of what is New Russia, with the fall of communism and the rise of capitalism the city is constantly struggling to catch up and re-enter a modern world.

Warmed up, a stroll is called for, past the Kremlin and the historic buildings that were the beginning of Moscow; a view of the Ostankino Tower peaks out above all the other sky scrappers and church towers, it is the world’s third tallest free standing structure. Undergoing a cultural revamp, churches have been cleaned, theatres advertised, and history preserved, Moscow is both embracing its pre-soviet history and its post-communism future.
